Transforming Reclaimed Wood into Stunning Keepsakes

At Beaver’s Benchworks, we celebrate the beauty of nature by crafting unique furniture and decor from sustainable materials, ensuring every item tells a story.

Types of Reclaimed Hardwoods

At Beaver’s Benchworks, we focus on three primary reclaimed hardwoods: oak, maple, and walnut. Oak is strong and full of character, often showing signs of its past life in barns and beams—like nail holes and weathered grain. Maple is clean, bright, and incredibly durable, frequently reclaimed from old gym floors and butcher blocks. Walnut adds a touch of natural elegance, with deep tones and flowing grain sourced from storm-downed trees or vintage lumber. Each board has a history—and we craft it into something lasting.

Our Core Reclaimed Hardwoods

At Beaver’s Benchworks, we work primarily with reclaimed Oak, Walnut, and Maple—each hand-selected for its durability, natural beauty, and unique character earned through decades of life. These hardwoods aren’t just materials—they're stories waiting to be retold through thoughtful craftsmanship.

Oak – Timeless Strength with Rustic Character

Oak is a cornerstone of reclaimed woodworking, and for good reason. Salvaged from old barns, beams, and historic floors, reclaimed Red and White Oak often features rich patinas, nail holes, and saw marks that speak to its long history.

  • Color: Light tan to golden brown
  • Grain: Prominent, coarse, and highly textured
  • Character: Tough, long-lasting, and full of personality
  • Best For: Farmhouse tables, flooring, shelving, and structural elements

Oak’s strength and visual texture make it a go-to for projects that celebrate age and authenticity.

Walnut – Refined Elegance, Naturally Dark

Reclaimed Walnut is prized for its deep, rich tones and graceful grain. Often salvaged from urban trees or antique furniture, walnut lends a sense of sophistication to any piece without feeling overly polished.

  • Color: Chocolate brown with purple or gold undertones

  • Grain: Smooth, straight to wavy

  • Character: Elegant, warm, and bold without being loud

  • Best For: Live-edge tables, headboards, and artistic accents

When Gary sources a storm-fallen walnut, and Matt gives it form, the result is something truly striking—functional art rooted in nature.

Maple – Bright, Durable, and Versatile

Often recovered from old gym floors or butcher blocks, reclaimed Maple is known for its light, creamy color and extreme hardness. It’s a favorite for clean, modern lines and high-use surfaces.

  • Color: Pale white to light amber

  • Grain: Subtle, uniform, with occasional birdseye or curly figuring

  • Character: Strong, smooth, and naturally bright

  • Best For: Countertops, cabinetry, benches, and minimalist pieces

Maple’s understated beauty lets craftsmanship shine—and its strength means it lasts for generations.

Every slab we use has a story. Whether it’s oak pulled from a 150-year-old barn beam, walnut rescued from storm-felled trees, or maple reclaimed from forgotten floors, we give these woods new life—crafted with care, and built to last.

Our Process – From Tree to Timeless

At Beaver’s Benchworks, every project is a journey—from salvaged wood to custom-built heirloom. Here’s how we bring your vision to life:

Salvage & Source

We begin by ethically sourcing reclaimed hardwood—often from felled trees, old barns, and structures. As an arborist, Gary (“Beaver”) personally inspects and selects each piece for its history, stability, and character.

Assess & Mill

The wood is carefully assessed, cleaned, and milled. We preserve the story in every board—retaining live edges, weathering, or unique markings when desired. This step sets the foundation for quality and integrity.

Design & Collaborate

We work closely with you to understand your vision, style, and space. Matt translates that into creations with custom sketches and concepts that balance the woods natural beauty with functional design.

Build & Shape

Here’s where craft meets creativity. Matt and Gary bring the design to life with precision joinery, hand-finishing, and attention to detail at every stage. Every piece is built to last generations.

Finish & Protect

We use eco-friendly finishes that enhance the wood’s natural color and protect it for everyday use. From matte oils to hardwax or low-VOC sealers, we ensure the final result is both beautiful and durable.

Deliver & Install

Your finished piece is delivered with care—whether it’s a table, bench, or built-in feature. We can handle full installation and are always happy to tell the story of the wood behind your custom creation.

Every slab has a history. We’re here to give it purpose.
